In 2005, founder, Jennifer Bryerton MaEd, noticed Virginia families struggling with scattered camp information across hundreds of individual websites, Facebook groups, and outdated PDFs. Parents needed one trusted place to compare options and find camps that matched their child's interests and family values.

She started locally, creating the CharlottesvilleFamily Camp Expo and comprehensive camp guides that became go-to resources for Central Virginia families. As word spread, camps and parents from across the state contacted her: "We need this for all of Virginia."

That consistent feedback led to VirginiaSummerCamp.com—a comprehensive, parent-friendly statewide directory built by someone who'd spent decades connecting families with quality programs.
