We do not publish AI-generated articles. Every story on our site and in our magazines is written, reported, or substantially rewritten and verified by a human member of our editorial team or a human freelance contributor.
We do not use AI to invent quotes, sources, experts, or facts. Every quote in our reporting comes from a real person we spoke with or a source we can point to.
Our camp listings are manually entered by an editor or submitted by a partner - all real people.
We do not use AI-generated images of children, families, or any real people, and we do not use AI images to depict local places, businesses, or events. Photos of Charlottesville are photos of Charlottesville.
We do not use AI to generate health, medical, legal, or safety guidance. That content is sourced from named experts and reviewed by them.
We may use AI tools to assist with research, to suggest headlines, to check grammar and spelling, to summarize long public documents such as school board materials, to help organize large directories and listings, and to help with routine production tasks. A human editor reviews and is responsible for everything we publish.
If we ever publish content that is substantially AI-generated, or an AI-generated illustration, we will label it clearly on the page.
AI tools make mistakes confidently. That is why nothing goes out on the assumption that a tool got it right. Our editors verify facts against primary sources. If we get something wrong, tell us and we will correct it.
